The idea of cutting your own dress patterns might seem daunting at first, but mastering this skill can completely transform your garment making. It opens up a world of possibilities and allows you to create exactly the garments that you want to wear in a fit that works for you. This immersive course is a practical introduction to the foundations of pattern cutting. Perfect for intermediate skill level, this hands-on workshop will guide you through drafting a set of basic blocks – bodice, sleeve and skirt – and introduce you to the core principles and techniques that we can use to alter the the fit and transform them into all manner of designs. What you'll learn: 🪡How to take accurate body measurements for drafting 🪡 Step-by-step construction of bodice, sleeve and skirt blocks 🪡 How to alter fit 🪡 Key pattern cutting principles such as manipulating darts, slashing and spreading, adding fullness, changing style lines and understanding ease 🪡 Refining patterns in a fitting This course is ideal for anyone looking to level-up their garment-making skills and take the next step into the world of pattern drafting. I have always cut my own patterns, and I love the freedom of creativity and the endless possibilities that it opens up. It is such a broad subject and one in which you never stop learning, but this short course will provide a great foundation from which to begin your pattern cutting adventures. Spaces are limited to 4 people so that everyone can have the attention and help that they need. There will be equipment available in the studio, but if you have your own then it will be useful to bring: Pencil, eraser, set square or pattern master, measuring tape, scotch tape, notepad. Cancellation Policy

We understand that plans can change, and we want to be as fair and flexible as possible. You’re welcome to cancel within 14 days of booking for a full refund. After the 14-day window, cancellations made more than 7 days before your class can be refunded at 50% of the booking fee. Cancellations made within 7 days of the class are non-refundable, as it becomes difficult to fill the space at short notice. (Please note: If you book a class within 7 days of its start date, this non-refundable period still applies, even if you are within the 14-day booking window.) If you can no longer attend, you’re very welcome to pass your place on to someone else at no extra cost—just let us know who will be coming in your place. Should The Sewing Table need to cancel a class for any reason, you will, of course, receive a full refund for that session.
