** This listing is for a room in a shared cottage*** The idea of drafting your own dress patterns might seem daunting at first, but mastering this skill can completely transform your garment making. It opens up a world of possibilities and allows you to create exactly the garments that you want to wear in a fit that works for you. For this 5 x day retreat, we have extended our 3 x day Intro to Pattern Drafting short course to include a day on toiles and fittings, giving you the best foundation from which to start drafting and fitting your own bespoke patterns. Sara will guide you through how to create a standard set of basic blocks – skirt, bodice and sleeve – and introduce you to the core principles and techniques that we can use to alter the fit and transform them into all manner of designs. What you'll learn: 🪡 How to take accurate body measurements 🪡 Step-by-step construction of a standard bodice, sleeve and skirt block 🪡 Techniques to adjust and refine fit 🪡 Key pattern cutting principles such as manipulating darts, slashing and spreading, adding fullness, changing style lines and understanding ease 🪡 Preparing a toile for a fitting 🪡 How to conduct a fitting to refine fit 🪡 Accurately transferring fit adjustments to your paper pattern This course is ideal for anyone looking to level-up their garment-making skills and take the next step into the world of pattern drafting, but also for those at the beginning of their sewing journey as we will be starting from the absolute basics. We will start the retreat with a welcome drink in the sewing room on Sunday evening, where you can meet your tutor and your course mates, before a relaxing evening in your own charming self-catering cottage. A continental breakfast will be provided each morning before we meet in the sewing room for the 3hr morning session. A two course lunch will be provided in the cafe each day, and you will be able to take in some of Kailzie’s 20 acres of woodlands and gardens before returning for another 3hr session in the afternoon. Cancellation Policy
Booking Policy – The Sewing Table Retreats Booking and Payments The full cost of the retreat is required upon booking, and a 20% portion of the total cost is non-refundable. This helps us secure your place and cover upfront costs. Cancellations and Refunds If you need to cancel before December 31st 2025, we will refund 80% of your total payment (the non-refundable 20% deposit is retained). No refunds are available for cancellations made after December 31st 2025, or for non-attendance. Transfers If you know someone who would love to attend in your place, you are welcome to transfer your booking to another person at any time at no additional cost. Accommodation Booking Procedure The booking for the accommodation will be made directly with The Sewing Table and processed by Crabtree & Crabtree. Please read Crabtree and Crabtree’s terms and conditions Security Deposit In accordance with their terms and conditions, Crabtree & Crabtree will require a security deposit of £250 to cover the cost of any damage or breakages to or at the property. You will be notified if there is cause to charge any proportion of the security deposit. Retreat Cancellation In the unlikely event that The Sewing Table must cancel the retreat, you will be offered either a full refund of all payments made, or a partial refund if you would like to keep the accommodation booking.
