Service Description
This beginners sewing weekend intensive is an extended version of our much loved Intro to Sewing Machines workshop, and also takes in our Intro to Dress Patterns workshop and a day of Essential Sewing Techniques. Perfect for complete newbies and anyone who would benefit from a really comprehensive refresher - by the end of this intensive weekend, you should be ready to select a simple dress pattern, choose some fabric, and get started on your very first garment! Day 1 🪡 Intro to Sewing Machines Filling bobbins and threading up, balancing tensions, avoiding tangles, staying straight and sewing accurately, correct needle and thread selection, different stitches and what they do, finishing seams. 🪡 Using Dress Patterns How to select a dress pattern, choosing the right fabric in the correct amounts, the importance of grains and laying out, cutting accurately, marking up Day 2 🪡 Essential Sewing Techniques Gathering, pleats and darts Hems and mitred corners Sharp corners and perfect curves Patch pockets Facings Simple plackets Cuffs and waistbands Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day to keep us all going, and there will be a break for lunch when you can pop out into Peebles to refresh and refuel. Bring your own machine, or use one of the studio machines. All other equipment and materials will be provided.

Cancellation Policy
We understand that plans can change, and we want to be as fair and flexible as possible. You’re welcome to cancel within 14 days of booking for a full refund. After the 14-day window, cancellations made more than 7 days before your class can be refunded at 50% of the booking fee. Cancellations made within 7 days of the class are non-refundable, as it becomes difficult to fill the space at short notice. (Please note: If you book a class within 7 days of its start date, this non-refundable period still applies, even if you are within the 14-day booking window.) If you can no longer attend, you’re very welcome to pass your place on to someone else at no extra cost—just let us know who will be coming in your place. Should The Sewing Table need to cancel a class for any reason, you will, of course, receive a full refund for that session.
